The fourth annual International Consulate Day is taking place in the Charleston area this weekend, bringing together consulates and community services for immigrants and residents. The event, hosted by the Latin Exchange Club of Charleston and the Charleston Hispanic Association, runs both Saturday and Sunday at two main locations in Charleston and Mount Pleasant.
Services being offered
Consulates from Mexico, Colombia, Spain, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Argentina are providing on‑site citizen services such as passport applications, birth‑certificate renewals, and ID assistance. Many attendees, including long‑time residents without official documents, described the event as eye‑opening and reassuring because they realized they are not alone in facing paperwork and legal hurdles.
Community and cultural aspects
Alongside consulate services, there is a Community Health Fair and free food from local nonprofits, turning the day into both a practical resource hub and a cultural celebration of Latin and Hispanic heritage. Event leaders say thousands typically attend, calling it an annual success that strengthens ties between U.S. and Latin American communities and highlights the importance of accessible, no‑cost consular help.
