Google offers a robotics event for Lowcountry students.

Dorchester County, South Carolina — Google organized a robotics program for Lowcountry children on Friday, providing middle schools with hands-on experience.

Students from Palmetto Scholars Academy, Woodland Middle School, and Charles B. DuBose Middle School worked together to create their own Claw Bots with the assistance of Robotics Education & Competition Foundation instructors.

During the program, children also heard about the relevance of STEM activities in sparking a lifelong interest in the topic.

“Robotics and STEM events teach students not only how to build machines, but also how to problem solve, collaborate, and think critically,” stated Dr. Emily Duplantis, Assistant Director of CTE at Dorchester District Two Schools. “These experiences prepare them for a future of innovation and success, and we appreciate Google bringing this wonderful event to Dorchester County.”

Google has had a presence in South Carolina for the last 15 years, including data centers in Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

The big search engine has made a $9 billion investment in the state to boost cloud and AI infrastructure.
