Flooding in Charleston County has caused a roadway washout on Wadmalaw Island, forcing traffic detours and prompting a response from state officials.
Washout Location
The St. John’s Fire District reported that the washout is affecting Bears Bluff Road near its split with Maybank Highway. The road is currently unsafe for travel until repairs are made.
State Response
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has been notified and is expected to arrive on scene to begin repair work. Officials have not yet given a timeline for when the road will reopen.
Detour Route
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and take an alternate route. Motorists can use Liberia Road to reconnect with Bears Bluff Road until further notice.
Residents and commuters in the area should allow extra travel time and remain cautious as flooding continues to impact parts of Charleston County.
