FIRST ALERT: Heavy rain is expected to fall throughout the region early this week!

Charleston, South Carolina – An impending storm system will bring unsettled and chilly weather to the Lowcountry for much of the upcoming workweek!

HEADLINES

  • Tonight’s isolated showers will eventually give way to a more widespread mixture of light to moderate rainfall by Monday morning. Cold air damming should keep temperatures in the upper 40s and 50s for most.
  • The best chances for steady rainfall and a few localized downpours are reserved for Monday afternoon and evening, mainly for areas east of I-95. Flooding concerns appear very low, but make sure to exercise caution – especially during the Monday evening commute.
  • Below-average temperatures are favored this week due to a brisk northeast wind and an area of high pressure to our north. High temperatures on Monday should range from the upper 50s to the mid 60s. Most areas will stay in the 60s starting Tuesday.
  • Hazardous marine conditions – alongside an elevated rip current risk – will continue through at least midweek. Small Craft Advisories and a Rip Current Statement are in place for the Charleston Harbor and all Lowcountry beaches on Monday.

TROPICS: As of Sunday night, Melissa is still a Major Hurricane, making it the fifth (and fourth) of the 2025 season. Rapid strengthening into a Category 5 storm is expected to continue through tonight, with impact around the Jamaica shoreline late Monday or early Tuesday. Significant rainfall, mudslides, and hazardous winds may cause life-threatening conditions in Jamaica and surrounding Caribbean islands until early next week.

As Melissa resurfaces in the southwestern Atlantic, the center of circulation will remain far from the Southeast United States. An increased rip current risk is expected to return later this week (in addition to Monday and Tuesday’s risk).
