FIRST ALERT Downtown streets close amid Saturday's tidal flooding

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Several roads in downtown Charleston were closed due to flooding, as a coastal flood warning remained in effect on Saturday.

Live 5 First Alert. Meteorologist Joey Sovine said Saturday’s high tide was around noon, and water levels were expected to peak around 8 feet, about half a foot lower than Friday’s high tide.

Charleston Harbor reached the major flood stage of 8 feet shortly before 12:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Flooding usually begins around the 7-foot mark.

According to the city’s website, all roads that were previously closed due to flooding have since reopened.

The warning remained in effect for Charleston and coastal Colleton Counties until 3 p.m. Saturday.
