Charleston, South Carolina – A strong cold front will deliver the Lowcountry its coldest air of the season thus far, with temperatures plunging below freezing in some areas.
The majority of the state will be under a freeze warning from 9 p.m. on Monday to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, including Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester, Colleton, Beaufort, Williamsburg, Georgetown, and Orangeburg Counties.
Temperatures are predicted to drop to the mid to upper 20s inland and hover around freezing near the beaches.
Live 5 First Alert. According to meteorologist Dorien Minor, temperatures will decrease from a heat index of over 77 on Sunday to a wind chill of slightly under 30 by Tuesday morning.
The Live 5 Weather team designated Tuesday as a First Alert Weather Day due to the extreme temperature change.
Frost and freeze conditions may harm crops and other vulnerable vegetation, as well as damage unprotected outdoor plumbing systems.
