What happened
- Around 11:30 p.m. on April 7, 2026, deputies responded to reports of a collision on northbound Highway 61 near Magnolia Plantation.
- The pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a tree; the driver, who was the only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene by Charleston County EMS.
Response and investigation
- The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office’s Traffic Services Unit is investigating the crash; the Charleston County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the driver’s name.
