Deputies from Charleston County are looking into a fatal crash on Maybank Highway

On December 5, 2025, at around 7 p.m., 74-year-old Robert Leventhal from Mount Pleasant, S.C., was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking on Maybank Highway near Stefan Drive toward Johns Island in Charleston County.​

Crash Details

The pedestrian was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina but succumbed to injuries on December 6 at 5:02 p.m. Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services and Forensic Services Units are investigating, with the roadway closed for hours during the initial probe.​
