ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. — A serious incident in Iva has led to multiple charges against a man after a shooting at a residence, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the situation unfolded on Sunday morning and involved a domestic dispute that quickly turned violent.
Incident at a Home in Iva
Deputies and detectives responded to a house on Highway 413 after receiving reports of a break-in. According to officials, a man identified as David Lee Cook allegedly forced his way into his ex-wife’s home.
At the time, she was inside along with another man. The situation became dangerous when Cook reportedly pointed a handgun at both individuals inside the house.
Shooting Leaves Man Injured
During the incident, Cook is accused of firing the weapon, and the bullet struck the man inside the home. Fortunately, the injury was not life-threatening, as the bullet only grazed the victim’s leg.
Emergency response teams ensured that the injured person received medical attention, and his condition was reported as stable.
Multiple Charges Filed
Authorities have charged Cook with several serious offences following the incident. These include domestic violence, burglary, and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature. Officials stated that these charges reflect the severity of the situation and the potential danger posed during the incident.
Suspect Attempted to Flee
After the shooting, deputies said Cook fled from the scene, which led to a wider search effort. Law enforcement issued a statewide alert to track him as he moved through multiple counties. This alert helped officers coordinate their efforts and stay informed about his movements.
Arrest and Current Status
Despite his attempt to escape, Cook eventually returned to Anderson County, where deputies were able to locate and arrest him. He is currently being held at a detention centre and is waiting for a bond hearing. Authorities have not released further details about the case at this time.
