Deputies believe that a man lied to officers following the fatal Johns Island crash

Charleston County, South Carolina – Charleston County deputies have arrested a 19-year-old man who allegedly lied to responding officers about having a second passenger after a fatal August crash on Johns Island.

Irineo Pimentel Guerrero is charged with felony driving under the influence that resulted in death.

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a crash on Fickling Hill Road shortly after 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, the agency said.

When they arrived, they spoke with the driver of the crashed vehicle, identified as Pimentel Guerrero, who informed them that there was a passenger inside. The responding deputy searched the area but couldn’t locate the passenger.

After speaking with Pimentel Guerrero again, he confirmed that there was no other person in the car. He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where blood tests revealed that Pimentel Guerrero had a blood alcohol level of.11 and was positive for THC.

An investigation revealed that Pimentel Guerrero crossed the center lane while driving and collided with a ditch, causing the vehicle to roll over and the passenger, Julian Navarro-Hernandez, 30, to be ejected.

On Monday, August 25, a local resident discovered a body while walking their property, several days after the crash.

Deputies identified the body as that of Navarro-Hernandez, who had been ejected during the Friday crash.
