Coyote steals young puppy from Isle of Palms yard; DNR raises awareness

ISLE OF PALMS, South Carolina — A coyote reportedly took a small puppy from the yard of a Seagrass Lane residence early Friday morning, according to preliminary information from the Isle of Palms Police Department.

According to the patrol sergeant who responded to the site, the dog was reported to be walking freely on the property and had not been seen since the incident.

In reaction to the event, wildlife authorities remind homeowners that coyotes can be found in all 46 South Carolina counties.

Though the trapping season for coyotes runs from December 1 to March 1, landowners who report coyote damage may be eligible for a special permit to assist control the animals.
