A 60-year-old Charleston man, Edward W. Brown, died from injuries after a vehicle struck him while crossing Sam Rittenberg Boulevard in a wheelchair.
Crash Details
Charleston Police responded around 7:44 p.m. on March 6, 2026, to the intersection with Gamecock Avenue, where Brown attempted to cross without a crosswalk or pedestrian signal. A Honda Element hit him, causing its engine compartment to catch fire; he succumbed just before 1 a.m. Saturday at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Investigation Outcome
The driver remained at the scene. No charges are expected, per police, as their Major Accident Investigation Team probes the incident—Charleston’s third fatal traffic collision of 2026.
