Charleston, South Carolina – Wet weather and lower temperatures will arrive during the next week as a storm system approaches and forms near the Lowcountry!
Clouds will begin to develop tonight, with a largely gloomy Sunday ahead. The second half of the weekend may see a few scattered showers. A breeze will begin to develop on Sunday when a low pressure system forms along the coast.
The probability of rain increases on Monday, with damp weather predicted to begin the new work week. Our initial area of low pressure should dissipate, but a broad trough aloft will remain through midweek. Uncertainty is expected to last into midweek, with occasional showers.
Daytime highs are expected to be several degrees below average, with most places only seeing temperatures reach into the 60s starting Monday. Drier weather should take over before Halloween, with a cold, dry day predicted on Friday.
TROPICS: As of Saturday night, Melissa has strengthened into a Major Hurricane, making it the fifth hurricane (and fourth major hurricane) of the 2025 season. Rapid strengthening into a Category 4 or 5 storm is expected to continue until at least Sunday before making impact over the Jamaican coastline. Significant rainfall, mudslides, and hazardous winds may cause life-threatening conditions in Jamaica and surrounding Caribbean islands until early next week.
As Melissa resurfaces in the southwestern Atlantic, the center of circulation will remain far from the Southeast United States. An increased rip current risk may resume by midweek (in addition to the risk on Sunday and Monday).
