North Charleston, South Carolina – Police in North Charleston apprehended a convicted criminal Tuesday night after discovering him with drug paraphernalia and a weapon.
Around 7:30 p.m., an officer stopped a car near Rivers and Cosgrove Avenues because it had a malfunctioning tag light.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, both the driver and the passenger refused to comply with commands during the stop.
Responding cops reported seeing the passenger reach inside a bag and toward his waistline. A Charleston County Sheriff’s Office K-9 team was dispatched to help, and during a free-air sniff, police were alerted to the presence of narcotics.
During the search, officers discovered a crack pipe, a revolver, ammo, and a small bag of a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Richard Vernon Deas, 55, was arrested and charged with felony possession of a handgun and intent to distribute methamphetamine.
