Heavy rainfall continues to cause disruptions across the Lowcountry, prompting closures, cancellations, and event relocations in both Charleston and Dorchester counties. With a flood watch in effect until 2 a.m. Sunday, officials are urging residents to stay alert for rising water and travel hazards.
Charleston County Closures and Changes
Several facilities and events in Charleston County have adjusted their schedules because of flooding concerns:
Charleston County Public Library: Main branch on Calhoun Street, West Ashley branch on Windermere Boulevard, and Johns Island branch on Maybank Highway are closed Saturday.
French Huguenot Church: Located in downtown Charleston, the church has canceled Sunday services due to the weather.
Marcus King Band Family Reunion: Originally scheduled at Firefly Distillery, the event has been moved to the North Charleston Coliseum.
Dorchester County Updates
Dorchester School District Two: All district activities for Saturday have been canceled in response to ongoing weather conditions.
Flood Watch in Effect
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch through 2 a.m. Sunday for much of the Lowcountry. Continued rainfall could cause street flooding, hazardous driving conditions, and localized high water, especially in low-lying areas.
Residents are advised to:
Avoid driving through flooded streets
Monitor weather alerts for updates
Allow extra travel time or postpone non-essential trips
Stay cautious near rivers, creeks, and coastal areas
