CHARLESTON, S.C. – This weekend, the Charleston Animal Society is giving families the perfect chance to adopt a new pet as part of the NBC Clear the Shelters campaign. Starting Friday, all adoption fees are waived, making it easier than ever to give an animal a forever home.

Clear the Shelters “Crescendo Event”

The fee-waiving event is the finale to the annual Clear the Shelters initiative, which connects animals with loving families nationwide.

“We really, really are relying on our community to make amazing events like this as successful as they are,” said Will Howell, Associate Director of Marketing at CAS.

Aldwin Roman, Vice President and Chief Operating Manager of CAS, added, “In celebration of this crescendo event of Clear the Shelters, we are waiving all adoption fees.”

Why Now Is the Perfect Time

Every adopted animal comes vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. Staff say there is truly a pet for every kind of household:

Dogs great with children

Pets best suited for active families

Calm companions for quieter homes

Cats and dogs ready to be your couch buddy

Other Ways to Help

If you’re not ready to adopt, there are still plenty of ways to support the shelter:

Foster animals temporarily

Volunteer with daily care or office work

Donate funds or supplies

Enter the Subaru raffle

The raffle, supported by board members and Crews Subaru, features seven prizes, including a 2025 Subaru Ascent and cash prizes up to $20,000. Proceeds go toward caring for more than 250 animals currently awaiting homes.

Community Spirit

“This weekend is all about finding animals their forever homes,” Roman emphasized. “If you don’t find the right pet here, check our Berkeley campus or other partner shelters. We just want these animals to go home.”

The Charleston Animal Society is open this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On August 23rd, News 2 will also go live from shelters across the Lowcountry for a Clear the Shelters special.
