Following severe storms, the National Weather Service is warning of a sharp temperature drop across the Charleston area. Wind chill values are forecast to fall into the upper teens and low 20s during the overnight and early morning hours Monday and again Tuesday. The coldest periods are expected between 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday, with another round late Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Inland and Coastal Communities Will Feel the Impact
Inland areas such as Walterboro, Summerville, and Moncks Corner could experience wind chills as low as 17 to 20 degrees. Coastal communities including Charleston and Beaufort are expected to see wind chills ranging from 20 to 23 degrees. Although air temperatures may stay above freezing in many locations, gusty winds will make conditions feel significantly colder.
Residents Urged to Take Cold Weather Precautions
Forecasters note that cold weather advisories may be issued if conditions continue to trend colder. The chilliest temperatures are expected during the pre-dawn hours, which could affect early commuters and students waiting at bus stops. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, protect pets from the cold, and use space heaters safely to reduce the risk of fire hazards.
