Charleston, South Carolina — A guy accused of breaking into several automobiles in a downtown Charleston neighborhood has been apprehended after police tracked him down with a pair of stolen Apple AirPods.
Officers from the Charleston Police Department responded to Gibbes Street near Lenwood Boulevard at 8 a.m. on September 20 after receiving complaints of many vehicles being broken into overnight.
Authorities were able to locate the perpetrator, eventually identified as 29-year-old Shaoquna Rishen Williams, after obtaining surveillance evidence from neighboring homeowners and tracking a stolen set of AirPods.
“They discovered a stolen Rolex watch on the suspect’s wrist and recovered a bookbag containing additional property, including the tracked AirPods, all reported stolen in the nearby car break-ins,” according to a Chicago Police Department news statement.
Williams was detained and charged with many crimes, including receiving stolen items worth more than $10,000, receiving stolen goods worth less than $2,000, breaking into motor vehicles three times, and interfering with a vehicle once.
According to authorities, Williams was under the supervision of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services at the time of the thefts for property-related charges.
He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on $100,000 bail, according to jail records.
