Charleston police plan to set up traffic checkpoints on Halloween night for safety

Charleston, South Carolina — The Charleston Police Department will conduct traffic safety checkpoints on Friday evening in an effort to keep the streets safe while people enjoy Halloween.

Officers will set up checkpoints on East Bay Street at Columbus Street and Calhoun Street near Smith Street.

These areas will be patrolled between 9 p.m. and 11:30 a.m., and drivers should use caution, stay alert, and be aware of law enforcement presence.

Before going out to celebrate Halloween, authorities recommend that you designate a driver ahead of time. If there is no sober driver available, authorities recommend calling a friend or family member, hailing a taxi, or using your smartphone to order a car sharing service.
