Charleston police make four arrests for weekend burglaries

A Saturday morning visit to retrieve a forgotten wallet quickly escalated into a violent home invasion in Charleston, South Carolina, leaving multiple people injured and four individuals facing serious criminal charges.

Four Charged After Alleged Assault and Home Invasion

Charleston police say Calvin Douglas Graham, Loretta Mae Graham, Ashley Shawntee Washington, and Yasmine Smalls have all been arrested in connection to an incident that took place on Romney Street around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. What started as a simple phone call reportedly turned into a heated argument and physical altercation.

According to the police report, the incident began when one of the victims contacted Loretta Graham, 54, to let her know she had left her wallet at the house. Loretta arrived with Smalls, Washington, and Calvin Graham, 33, who is believed to be her son.

Things Turned Violent at the Doorstep

Police say a “disagreement at the front door” quickly escalated. The four suspects allegedly forced their way into the home, attacking the three people inside — one of whom was holding a baby at the time.

One victim was scratched on the right side of the face

Another was punched in the face while holding a baby

The third was grazed by a punch that narrowly missed their face

Two of the victims suffered minor cuts and scratches, but fortunately, the baby was not reported to be injured.

Violation of Restraining Order Adds to Charges

During their investigation, authorities discovered that Calvin Graham was under a permanent restraining order involving Loretta Graham, yet the two showed up at the scene together — a clear violation, police say.

This detail resulted in additional charges against Calvin, who was also found to have a lengthy criminal history.
