Charleston man faces trial in connection with his cousin's death in 2021

Antonio Green Jr., 22, is on trial for murder, armed robbery, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime related to the October 2021 shooting death of his first cousin, Travis Terrell Green, 22. The shooting took place at the Pinecrest Greene apartments in West Ashley on October 30, 2021, around 2:30 p.m.

Testimony from Witnesses and Experts

On the second day of trial, key testimonies came from both expert witnesses and a neighbor who called 911. Lamont Tomlin, a nearby resident, recalled hearing an argument followed by gunshots and rushing to help the victim. Tomlin found Travis Green alive at the scene, offering words of encouragement while waiting for help to arrive.

Dr. Nicholas Batalis, a forensic pathologist from the Medical University of South Carolina, testified that Travis Green was shot four times and likely died from a spinal cord injury caused by one of the bullets.

Crime scene investigators, including Ashleigh Wojslawowiczz, presented findings on the bullet trajectory and evidence collected at the scene, including a handgun and multiple shell casings found in the vehicle Travis Green was in when shot.

Surveillance Footage and Social Media Evidence

Sgt. Eric Tuttle of the Charleston Police Department provided insights from the apartment’s surveillance footage, showing three men walking towards the area where Travis Green was shot, with Antonio Green Jr. seen running away minutes later. Tuttle also identified Stewart holding an unidentifiable object and Sease carrying a handgun. Defense attorney Melisa Gay questioned the identification of the object in Stewart’s hand, asking the jury to draw its own conclusions.

Unclear Connection to Additional Homicide Case

During the trial, deputies testified about a traffic stop in July 2022, where they discovered a handgun linked to a Charleston homicide and a 2018 case. However, it is still unclear how this firearm is related to the current case.

Court Proceedings and Anticipated Continuation

Antonio Green Jr. appeared in court wearing an ankle monitor, as records indicate he was released in 2022. Sease remains in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center, while Stewart’s records are unavailable. The prosecution plans to continue presenting its case on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Charleston County Courthouse.
