Charleston, South Carolina – Some downtown streets are closed Friday morning due to tidal inundation.
The National Weather Service predicted that high tide would occur about 11 a.m.; however, saltwater flooding was probable one to two hours before and after high tide.
A coastal flood warning is in force from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, in preparation for saltwater flooding.
The Charleston Police Department reports that the following highways in the Charleston region are currently closed:
The following intersections: Ashley Avenue at Wentworth Street, Barre Street at Montagu Street, Calhoun Street at Courtenay Drive, Church Street at South Market Street, Concord Street at North Market Street, East Bay Street at Market Street, Fishburne Street at Hagood Street, Lockwood Drive at Montagu Street, Broad Street, and the exit for US 17, Montagu Street at Gadsden Street, US-17/SC 61 split, SC-30 Connector toward Lockwood Boulevard, South Market Street at Meeting Street, and Washington Street.

In response to the potential of flooding, the city of Charleston erected two parking garages for residents and visitors. The Charleston Tech Center Garage at 997 Morrison Drive and the 99 WestEdge Garage will be open for free parking until 4 p.m. on Friday.
Additionally, Mount Pleasant police closed Long Point Road between Needlerush Parkway and Rice Planters Drive due to high water.
