Charleston County, S.C. — In response to a recent spike in overdoses, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the community about the availability of Narcan stands located throughout the county. The initiative comes after six overdoses were reported in just an eight-hour span on Wednesday, with two of the incidents being fatal.
Recent Overdose Surge and Narcan’s Role
The sheriff’s office highlighted that two of the overdoses involved heroin, with one resulting in a fatality. In light of this increase, law enforcement is emphasizing the importance of Narcan, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, including those caused by heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioids.
Narcan is a pre-filled nasal spray that can be administered by anyone without any specialized training or authorization, making it accessible in emergencies.

Charleston County has set up several Narcan stands across the area for public access. These stands are regularly stocked to ensure that anyone in need can quickly obtain the medication. The locations of the Narcan stands include:

Privacy and Availability

Call for Community Action
Sheriff’s deputies urge the community to take note of the Narcan stands and to use the resources available in the event of an overdose. The rise in overdose cases across Charleston County underscores the urgency of making Narcan widely available to help save lives.
