Charleston and Dorchester counties have announced rubbish collection and business closures for MLK Day.

Charleston and Dorchester counties in South Carolina are implementing closures and service adjustments for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 19, 2026. These changes affect city offices, recreation facilities, courts, libraries, and trash collection schedules.

City of Charleston Closures

All City of Charleston offices and recreation facilities, such as pools and tennis centers, will close on Monday. The Municipal Golf Course remains open during normal hours.

Town of Mount Pleasant

Town offices will be closed on Monday.

Dorchester County Details

County administrative offices, courts, libraries, and book drops will close Monday and reopen Tuesday.

Trash Collection Changes

City of Charleston and Town of Mount Pleasant trash services shift to a one-day delay: Monday routes move to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, Wednesday to Thursday, and Thursday to Friday. Trident Waste collection for Johns Island, Outer West Ashley, Daniel Island, and Cainhoy follows a normal schedule.
