Charleston, South Carolina — Multiple megayachts docked at Charleston’s Harbour Marina on Friday. The 226-foot-long Spectre, owned by millionaire Rob Sands, arrived in the Holy City on September 26 after leaving Nantucket, Massachusetts, according to marinetraffic.com, a boat tracking website.
The 217-foot-long yacht Hampshire, owned by millionaire Andrew Currie, a director of the chemical business Ineos, was parked a few yards from the Spectre on Friday. Marinetraffic.com reports that it arrived in Charleston on September 20 after departing Newport, Rhode Island.
According to Superyachtfan.com, Spectre has cabin space for 12 guests and a crew of 15, and was designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta in 2018. It cost a stunning $70 million and had an annual running cost of $7 million.
Sands purchased the yacht Spectre from the commissioning owner, John Staluppi. According to Superyachtfan.com, Sands is the Executive Chairman of Constellation Brands, a multinational beer, wine, and spirits company best known for brands including Svedka Vodka, Corona, and Modelo.
The Hampshire similarly accommodates 12 guests but has a crew of 19. Harrison Eidsgaard designed it in 2016 for $100 million, with yearly operating costs ranging from $5 to $10 million.
The yacht was created for Larry Van Tuyl before being sold to Currie, who runs the vast chemical giant Ineos Group.
Sands and Currie are not the only ultra-wealthy mega-yacht owners who have docked their vessels in Charleston. After leaving Savannah, Georgia, “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling landed her boat, the Samsara, in Charleston’s harbour in June 2024.
