An inquiry is underway after a three-year-old child drowned in a pond in North Charleston

North Charleston, S.C. — A three-year-old child tragically lost their life in a drowning incident on Tuesday evening in North Charleston, as confirmed by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

The Incident

According to the sheriff’s office, authorities were alerted shortly after 7 p.m. to a report of a missing child in the 8100 block of Windsor Hill Boulevard. Deputies arrived at the scene and were quickly informed that the child had been found in a neighborhood pond.

A Good Samaritan reportedly entered the water and pulled the child out of the pond just as deputies arrived. First aid was administered immediately, and the child was rushed by EMS to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save the child, they were later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Ongoing Investigation

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, along with the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office, is currently investigating the incident to determine the cause of the drowning.

At this time, the community is left in shock and mourning, as this tragic event highlights the potential dangers of bodies of water, especially in residential areas.
