According to the NCPD, a mother turned herself in after a confrontation with her daughter

A North Charleston woman, Kenyada Smith, faced arrest for her role in a disturbing family altercation. Police reports detail how the incident escalated from a school suspension into physical conflict.

Incident Overview

On March 13, officers responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Ladson Road. The daughter alleged her mother attacked her with a metal coat hanger and used a chokehold, with injuries matching her account; Smith claimed it started as play that turned aggressive on the daughter’s part.

Conflicting Accounts

The victim’s sister reported the fight began after the daughter’s school suspension, with the teen swinging the hanger first, prompting Smith to restrain her. Smith later turned herself in, calling it a “misunderstanding.”

Smith, 41, was charged with Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child under South Carolina Code ยง 63-5-70, a felony for actions placing a child at unreasonable risk of harm or causing injury. Penalties can include up to 10 years in prison. She was booked into a local detention center on April 7, 2026.
