A suspect has been charged following an early morning shooting on King Street

Charleston, S.C. — A 22-year-old man has been charged after a shooting incident near King Street early last week. Daquen Tyell Brown of Charleston faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and unlawful possession of a machine gun following a confrontation on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 21.

Details of the Shooting Incident

According to the Charleston Police Department, officers responded to Line Street and King Street around 1 a.m. after hearing gunfire in the area. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen lying in the roadway. Not long after, police were notified that another man had arrived at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators later confirmed that the two men were familiar with each other and had been involved in an argument that escalated into gunfire. According to the police, Daquen Brown allegedly pulled a handgun with a switch during an attempted robbery and shot at the victim. The victim returned fire in self-defense, hitting Brown in the process.

Arrest and Charges

Both men were hospitalized but have since been released. Following the investigation, Brown was charged and booked on multiple charges on Thursday, Aug. 28. Authorities noted that Brown was already under the supervision of the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon at the time of the shooting.
