Thomas Scott Moody, 48, was arrested on Friday following a high-speed pursuit that ended with the discovery of methamphetamine and a firearm. Moody now faces multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and resisting arrest.
The Pursuit and Arrest
A deputy from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office spotted Moody riding a Kawasaki Ninja-style motorcycle at a high rate of speed along Mendel Rivers Road, near Harristown Road.
After attempting to initiate a traffic stop, Moody continued to flee, covering a significant distance, before losing control of the motorcycle in a muddy area.
Moody abandoned the bike and attempted to escape on foot, running into a wooded area. During the foot chase, deputies observed Moody reaching for a loaded gun and subsequently deployed a Taser to subdue him. They secured the firearm safely and placed him under arrest.
Drug Discovery and Charges
After his arrest, Moody told deputies he had illegal drugs on him, prompting a search. The search uncovered approximately 42.45 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded .22-caliber handgun, and additional ammunition.
Moody was charged with:
- Failure to stop for blue lights and sirens
- Resisting arrest
- Trafficking methamphetamine (more than 28 grams)
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime
Booking and Detention
Thomas Scott Moody was booked into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center following the arrest.
