A routine patrol in Moncks Corner turned into a felony arrest after officers discovered a vehicle displaying a stolen license plate. Luwanda Evelyn Dargan, 44, was pulled over at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Highway 6 after police saturated the area in response to a reported stolen tag.
When questioned, Dargan admitted she had knowingly placed a license plate on her vehicle that did not belong to her. Officers arrested her at the scene.
Stolen Plate Linked to Charleston Aviation Authority
Authorities later confirmed the plate had been taken from an unmarked patrol vehicle belonging to the Charleston Aviation Authority. The patrol vehicle had been parked outside a residence when the plate was stolen.
Once deputies learned the plate belonged to the Aviation Authority, it was entered into the National Crime Information Center database as stolen, prompting an intensified search effort.
Additional Charges Filed as Investigation Continues
In addition to the felony charge related to the stolen plate, Dargan faces local charges including a second offense for driving an uninsured vehicle with a suspended license and receiving stolen property. The investigation into the stolen Charleston Aviation Authority license plate remains ongoing.
