A search is underway for a suspect who fled during the pursuit on I-26, according to the NCPD

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Authorities are searching for a suspect who fled on foot after a police pursuit on Interstate 26 ended in a crash Thursday afternoon, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Pursuit Ends in Multi-Vehicle Crash

The chase came to an end near the I-526 exits at mile marker 212, where the suspect’s vehicle crashed, involving other drivers on the roadway.

Police confirmed that eastbound lanes of I-26 were shut down for several hours as emergency crews responded. Traffic reopened shortly before 3 p.m., but drivers are still urged to use caution in the area as the investigation continues.

Suspect Fled the Scene

After the crash, the individual pursued by police reportedly fled the scene on foot. Officers and other agencies are now conducting a search. It is unclear whether anyone was injured in the crash.
