North Charleston, S.C. – Darrell Kasey Williams, 33, has been charged with accessory to murder in connection with the 2020 killing of De’Andre Rivers. Williams was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center on Monday, Aug. 25, after being transported from a federal prison in Bennettsville, SC. The charges stem from allegations that Williams orchestrated the murder of De’Andre Rivers by hiring Quinton Taylor, who carried out the crime.
Alleged Role in the Murder Plot
According to North Charleston Police Department (NCPD), Williams used a contraband cell phone while incarcerated to arrange the murder. In April and May 2020, Williams allegedly made calls to Taylor, arranging and paying him to carry out the murder of Rivers. The details suggest that Williams played a key role in planning the crime while in prison.
The Murder of De’Andre Rivers
De’Andre Rivers, a Goose Creek native, was found dead on May 6, 2020, around 5 a.m. He was discovered shot to death in the driver’s seat of a car parked on Gullah Avenue in North Charleston. The discovery prompted an immediate investigation, which led to the arrest of Quinton Taylor just days later.
Arrest of Quinton Taylor
Quinton Taylor, who was arrested for unrelated charges at the time, was charged with murder shortly after Rivers’ body was found. Taylor is still awaiting trial for the murder, according to court records.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
While Taylor’s murder case has yet to be tried, Williams is facing serious charges for his involvement in the 2020 killing. His role as an alleged mastermind behind the murder plot has brought additional attention to the use of contraband phones in prisons for coordinating illegal activities. Authorities continue to investigate Williams’ involvement, and he is now facing legal consequences for his alleged actions.
