North Charleston, South Carolina – A guy accused of a hit-and-run in September was detained Monday after questioning patrol police about job chances in the city.

Nathaniel Lamar Gailliard Jr., 37, is charged with failing to stop for blue lights and sirens, unlawful possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon, driving while suspended, and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Officers from North Charleston were monitoring La Quinta Lane around 4 p.m. Monday when a guy approached and asked if they knew of any job openings.

The officers observed as Gailliard exited a van. When the door opened, they discovered a loaded AR-15 magazine in the door pocket.

According to the department, other officers arrived at the site and recognized the van from a car pursuit on September 20.

The pursuit began after the fleeing driver caused a hit-and-run collision.

Gailliard remains detained at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
