The assault occurred when two men pulled the victim from his moped on Proctor Avenue, beat him, and fled with the vehicle toward the road. Officers responded promptly to the 3300 block of Spruill Avenue but initially could not locate the suspects. Thompson was recognized and arrested during a routine patrol about a week later.​

Thompson’s charges include common law strong-arm robbery, first-degree assault and battery, and possession of approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine base, confirmed by field testing.
