A man from North Charleston was detained for assault and violently resisting arrest.

A 37-year-old man, Dennis Michael Oliver, was arrested in North Charleston, S.C., following a violent domestic incident on Cambridge Avenue.

Incident Details

Officers responded around 3 p.m. to reports of an assault and found two crying juveniles outside the home. Inside, the officer saw Oliver strangling a woman and tackled him off her.​

Officer Confrontation

Oliver resisted commands, punched the officer, pinned him against a wall, and tried grabbing the officer’s holstered firearm and Taser. The officer struck Oliver multiple times to subdue him until backup arrived.

Charges and Detention

Oliver faces charges of unlawful taking of a firearm, resisting arrest, and unlawful conduct toward a child. He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
