A Charleston-area man is celebrating a life-changing windfall after winning the largest Pick 4 payout ever awarded to a single player in the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The lucky winner, who chose not to reveal his identity, hit it big in the midday Pick 4 drawing earlier this month, claiming a total prize of $811,000.
He told lottery officials he had a strong hunch about the numbers 1-7-3-1 and decided to test his luck. Instead of playing once, he spread his chances across 162 tickets, spending $339 in total.
