Uplift Charleston is delivering real holiday hope to North Charleston’s homeless community this Christmas Eve. Their event at Maz Fresco grocery store on Ashley Phosphate Road highlights practical generosity amid Lowcountry challenges.
Event Details
The distribution starts at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot, offering 200 wrapped gifts and warm jackets collected via student letters and a drive at Francis Marion Hotel. This marks the nonprofit’s first year serving North Charleston, expanding from Charleston roots.
Organization Background
Founder Aaron Comstock launched Uplift Charleston about a decade ago after seeing stark poverty parallels between the Philippines and local areas like North Charleston. The group focuses on clothing, encouragement, and referrals for the homeless, with current Christmas funding around $300 but ambitions for food vouchers and year-round aid.
Community Impact
Recipients often share emotional stories of loss and isolation, finding renewed hope through simple items like jackets or pillows—new or not. Volunteers emphasize that any caring donation matters deeply to those facing daily hardships on the streets.
