A fatal multivehicle crash occurred on Nexton Parkway near Grand Boulevard in Summerville, South Carolina, around 5:20 a.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, during a police chase.​
Crash Sequence
A 2022 Chevrolet sedan driven by 21-year-old Enaj B. Vasconcellos of Summerville fled police, attempted to pass a 2023 Honda SUV, veered into oncoming traffic, and struck a 2018 Subaru SUV head-on.
Vasconcellos died at the scene; the Honda driver was uninjured.​
Injured Victim
Subaru driver Mindy Collins suffered severe injuries including a broken collarbone, femur, right hand, massive internal bleeding, and swelling; she’s in a medically induced coma at a local hospital.​
Her niece Taryn Castaldi noted Collins was en route to work and faces a long recovery supported by family.​
Response and Investigation
Pine Ridge Fire & Rescue, C&B Fire & Rescue, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, and EMS responded; SCHP and the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
