A fire in Berkeley County causes a multi-agency reaction and evacuation.

Central Berkeley Fire and EMS responded swiftly to a large brush fire on January 15, 2026, in the 2400 block of Ranger Drive, Berkeley County, South Carolina. Firefighters contained the rapidly spreading blaze by 11:30 p.m., protecting nearby homes without any structural damage or injuries.

Incident Details

Crews arrived within 10 minutes of the 9 p.m. dispatch after two reports of the same fire under high-voltage lines, where wind fueled its quick advance. They coordinated with the South Carolina Forestry Commission for plows and contained the 31-acre fire despite cold temperatures accelerating its spread.

Response Effort

Multiple agencies participated, including Central Berkeley Fire and EMS, North Berkeley Fire Department, South Berkeley Fire Department, Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department, and forestry officials, deploying four engines, five tankers, a brush truck, four squads, three plows, and a ranger. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office managed traffic control during evacuations of precautionary homes.

Outcome and Cause

Assistant Fire Chief Colt Roy praised the responders’ professionalism for the successful containment, with no structures lost. The fire’s cause remains undetermined.
