In a dramatic series of events on July 26, Anterrius Singleton led law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase through Summerville, South Carolina. The pursuit, which reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, ended in a dramatic crash, and Singleton was arrested on multiple charges. This incident highlights not only the dangerous actions of the suspect but also the persistence of law enforcement in capturing suspects involved in criminal activity.
The High-Speed Chase
According to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling the area when they observed a red Hyundai Elantra driving on the highway. Upon further inspection, officers recognized the car as a stolen vehicle, reported as having been taken from Florence County. As the vehicle passed, deputies were able to clearly see the driver, but their initial attempt to pursue the car was thwarted by another vehicle blocking their path.
The stolen vehicle continued driving, and as it made a left turn onto Berlin G Myers Parkway, the officers were able to get behind it and activate their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. However, instead of stopping, the driver, later identified as Anterrius Singleton, swerved around traffic and refused to pull over, starting a dangerous high-speed chase through Ladson and Lincolnville for approximately 7 minutes.
The chase reached speeds of 90 mph, with officers maintaining pursuit as Singleton attempted to evade capture.
The Crash and Arrest
The high-speed chase came to an end at the intersection of Von Oshen Road and Dunmeyer Hill Road, where the vehicle ran off the roadway, struck a wire fence, and ultimately rolled over into a resident’s front yard. After the crash, two individuals fled from the vehicle, with Singleton, the driver, being seen hopping a fence into a nearby backyard.
Despite his attempt to escape, deputies were able to quickly apprehend Singleton, who was then identified as the driver. A search of Singleton’s person led to the discovery of a 9mm handgun. According to the incident report, Singleton told deputies that he fled because he was out on bond for murder.
The Charges
Following the pursuit and his arrest, Anterrius Singleton was charged with:
Failure to stop for blue lights (failure to stop when law enforcement activates emergency lights)
Receiving stolen goods with a value between $2,000 and $10,000
Singleton was transported to a local hospital for treatment due to injuries sustained during the crash. After receiving medical attention, he was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center, where he faces charges related to the stolen vehicle and his reckless attempt to evade law enforcement.
Law Enforcement Response
The incident report from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office highlights the risks that law enforcement officers face during high-speed chases. Despite the dangers, officers persisted in their efforts to bring the suspect to justice. Deputies were able to safely apprehend Singleton, and Charleston County is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his actions.
The arrest of Anterrius Singleton serves as a reminder of the dangerous consequences of attempting to evade law enforcement. His reckless behavior, which led to a high-speed chase and a crash, has left him facing multiple criminal charges, including the possession of a stolen vehicle and evading arrest. As the investigation continues, Singleton’s arrest underscores the commitment of law enforcement officers to pursue suspects, even in the most high-risk situations.
