A 51-year-old mom in West Virginia will spend more than a decade behind bars for fatally starving and neglecting her 14-year-old daughter, Kyneddi Miller. Authorities said Kyneddi was found dead in an “emaciated” and “skeletal state” inside the family’s home, days after her death. Boone County Circuit Judge Stacy Nowicki-Eldridge sentenced Julie Miller to 15 years to life in a state correctional facility for her role in Kyneddi’s 2024 death.
Details of the Case and Sentence
Julie Miller pleaded guilty to one count of the death of a child caused by a parent, guardian, or custodian in November 2024. The judge handed down the maximum sentence, with the possibility of parole after 15 years, though Miller would serve an additional 50 years of supervised release. The victim’s grandparents, Jerry and Donna Stone, also lived in the house and were charged with felony neglect. While Jerry Stone was found incompetent to stand trial, Donna Stone’s trial is set to begin next month.
Shocking Discovery and Investigation
Authorities responded to a call on April 17, 2024, reporting a juvenile in cardiac arrest at the family home. First responders found Kyneddi lying motionless, her body in an emaciated and skeletal state, and pronounced her dead at the scene. Investigators later revealed that Kyneddi had not been attending school for years and had been largely isolated. Her mother, Julie Miller, claimed to have homeschooled her daughter for medical reasons, citing fears of COVID-19 exposure to the elderly grandparents. Donna Stone, the victim’s grandmother, confirmed Kyneddi had not seen a doctor in years and had an eating disorder.
