The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is looking into an in-custody fatality at the York County jail.
According to a sheriff’s office release, a 45-year-old male experienced a medical issue on Wednesday evening.
The correctional staff quickly initiated life-saving procedures, but were unable to save him.
The inmate’s identity has not been disclosed, but the jail reports he has been in detention since August for failing to appear on drug charges.
The specific cause of the medical issue is still unknown at this time.
