A lady in northern Virginia is suspected of stabbing her mother in the neck, murdering her, and then abandoning her on the floor of her apartment as she fled with their dog.
Helena Little, 31, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of her mother, Norma Little, age 79. The Fairfax County Police Department said that the suspect is being housed at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
On Tuesday, about 10 a.m., an older woman’s caregiver arrived at her home on the 2300 block of Dulles Station Boulevard in McNair, Virginia, to check on her. When the caregiver entered the flat, she found a stunning find.
Norma Little suffered stab wounds to her upper torso, including her neck, according to authorities. She was on the floor beneath an overturned reclining chair, and the flat was disorganized. According to court documents acquired by local Fox station WTTG, the caregiver called police, who came and observed a strong odor of cleaning products.
Detectives began their investigation. An autopsy found that the subject died from sharp force injuries to the neck. Then arose the question of who did it.
Investigators discovered that, in addition to a caretaker, Norma Little received assistance from her two adult children, particularly due to her limited mobility. Officers investigated the area for evidence and claim to have discovered the keys to their case through surveillance footage, key fob activity, and witness accounts.
Helena Little allegedly left the residence with a rucksack and the family dog and did not return. Police recognized her as the suspect in her mother’s killing, and she was apprehended just 5 miles away in Reston, Virginia.
The defendant is currently being held with no bond.
