A Florida woman who became pregnant while in jail is currently on trial for murder.

Daisy Link made headlines in 2024 after giving birth to a baby whose father was also in jail at the time of conception, despite the fact that the two had never met or had any physical contact.

According to court records, Link was in jail at the time due to murder charges. Her trial started on Wednesday, October 8, according to NBC 6.

Court records show that Link was charged with murder in June 2022, two years before she gave birth.

According to NBC 6, Local 10, and CBS Miami, Link is accused of fatally shooting her partner, Pedro Jimenez.

NBC reported that prosecutors played body cam footage from the aftermath of the shooting in court on Thursday, the second day of her trial.

Prosecutors alleged that when police arrived, Link misled them by claiming she had just discovered Jimenez with a gunshot wound.

Link can be heard saying in the footage, which was published by NBC 6, “I see a hole from the back and a hole from the front — he was shot in his leg.”

She can also be heard exclaiming, “I saw him laying there.”

According to NBC 6 and Local 10, Link’s attorneys have admitted to shooting Jimenez but claim she killed him in self-defense.

“The evidence will show the victim was out of control,” her attorney, Ayuban Tomas, claimed, according to Local 10. “He was unhinged and dangerous.” “She fired a shot to get him to leave.”

According to WSVN, Link had Joan Depaz’s baby while in jail. Depaz is also charged with murder.

According to the outlet, the two used bedding to form a line between their two vents, which Depaz allegedly used to pass semen wrapped in Saran wrap to Link in her cell.

“I can’t believe it worked,” Link told the WSVN. “I think everything happened for a reason.”
