Woman charged after allegedly leaving two children in filthy home for days.' One child was discovered trying to eat raw meat, police say.

A Michigan woman has been charged after authorities say her two special needs children were left alone for several days in unsanitary and dangerous conditions.

According to a statement from the Flint Township Police Department, officers responded to a welfare check at a home in Flint Township, Genesee County, on Feb. 18 after a neighbor raised concerns. When officers entered the residence, they found the two children alone with no edible food available.

Police said one child was so hungry they were attempting to eat raw, spoiled meat, while the other was curled up on the floor. Body camera footage shared by the department showed trash covering the floors, overturned furniture and a running faucet. Officers could be heard noting that one of the children was covered in feces.

Mother Allegedly Left Children for Days

Investigators determined that the children had been left alone “for days,” police said. Authorities identified the mother as Krystal Farmer and alleged that she abandoned the children while prioritizing herself over their safety.

Farmer was charged Feb. 20 with multiple felonies, including child abandonment, child abuse and lying to an officer during a violent crime investigation. It is not immediately clear whether she has obtained legal representation.

Investigation Ongoing

The Flint Township Police Department said the investigation remains active. Officials have not released additional details about the children’s current condition or custody status.
