Milwaukee, WI – Three teenagers are facing charges in connection with a shootout that took place outside a party at a strip mall in Milwaukee, which resulted in the deaths of 19-year-old Bre’nee Veasley, an aspiring nurse, and 17-year-old Kingston Liphford, as well as injuries to three others. The incident, which took place on June 20, involved a chaotic exchange of gunfire that left a lasting impact on the community.
The Shootout and Charges
Earl Williams III, 17, is charged with felony murder, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, and possessing a machine gun. His alleged role in the deadly shooting includes firing shots that triggered the chaotic exchange of gunfire. Jardan Anderson, 18, and Isiah Daniels, 17, are charged with harboring or aiding a felon after allegedly helping Williams escape from the scene and attempting to avoid detection by spraying the vehicle they fled in.
Prosecutors recently released a criminal complaint detailing the events of the shooting, which involved 110 bullets fired from 11 different firearms within 20 seconds. The chaos was described as a “wild west-style shootout”, with shots clustered in three different areas, further indicating the violent nature of the exchange.
What Happened the Night of June 20?
On the night of June 20, police were called to 8223 W. Brown Deer Rd. around 11 p.m., where they found Veasley with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Another victim, Kingston Liphford, was also killed, and three others, aged 14, 15, and 17, were injured by gunfire.
According to a witness who was at the party with Veasley, she and Veasley had gone inside the party for about 20 minutes, and when they returned to the parking lot, they encountered Daniels standing near a Chevrolet Malibu. While talking to Daniels, the witness said she saw a man in a ski mask holding a firearm. The witness reportedly asked the man to put the gun away, but moments later, he allegedly opened fire, starting the shootout.
Investigation and Arrests
Daniels told detectives that he arrived at the party with Williams and Anderson in the Malibu. He claimed that Williams had a gun with a switch, which converts a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic one. Anderson also admitted to helping Williams escape by driving him away from the scene, then spray painting the Malibu in an attempt to avoid detection.
Williams allegedly told his co-defendants that he opened fire because he thought there were rival gang members with guns in the parking lot. Williams was arrested several days after the shooting when police responded to a weapons call. During the incident, he was allegedly found in possession of a Glock 23 with a switch. This weapon had fired 13 shots during the strip mall shootout.
Veasley’s Story and Legacy
Veasley, a 19-year-old college student, was on the verge of starting her career as a nurse. Her family has expressed their devastation over her death, emphasizing how she was a peaceful, hardworking young woman who was not involved in any trouble. According to a GoFundMe set up for her, she was due to start her first day of nursing school at the time of her death.
The fundraiser describes her as a “4.0 GPA” student who had her whole life ahead of her, adding: “A 19-year-old with her whole life ahead of her. A college student. A nurse, taken the night before her first day saving lives. A peacemaker. A light in our family. She wasn’t in the streets. She wasn’t in trouble. She was simply trying to enjoy her time out of school at a teen party.”
Legal Proceedings
Williams has been held on $300,000 bond and is scheduled for court on Monday. Anderson is set to appear in court on Sept. 29, while Daniels’ next court appearance remains unclear. The family of Veasley continues to mourn her loss, and the community remains shaken by the senseless violence that took her life.
