When police discovered an 11-year-old boy living in squalor, he weighed only 46 pounds. His mother has since been charged with child abuse.

A 41-year-old Texas mother has been charged with felony child abuse after police were summoned to her home and found her 11-year-old son covered in feces and weighing only 46 pounds.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Harris County, police in Baytown, roughly 26 miles outside Houston, responded to Rachel Nicole Blaylock’s mobile home with her son in May after receiving a “urgent” request for a welfare check.

According to a court filing filed on October 3 and seen by PEOPLE, Blaylock’s son is nonverbal, has never attended school, and is diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorder.

The police officer stated that the instant she entered into the residence, she noticed flies everywhere and dried fecal matter on the floors. The scent was “bad enough she nearly threw up,” according to the complaint.

Blaylock allegedly told authorities that she replaced her son’s bedroom door with a screen door and locked it to keep him from fleeing the house, as he had done previously. The officer on the scene characterized the bedroom as “dirty” and the mattress as “filthy,” with fecal matter strewn throughout.

The 11-year-old also had dried feces on his face, arms, and hands, as well as beneath his fingernails, according to the lawsuit.

When the police advised she take her kid to the hospital, Blaylock answered, “I just can’t drop everything I’m f—— doing and take him to the hospital so a quack-a– doctor can say, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with him,’ so we can see another one.”

According to the complaint, the child’s grandmother informed police that the boy was frequently imprisoned in his bedroom all day and that only Blaylock and her boyfriend could unlock the door, preventing the grandmother from bringing the 11-year-old food or drink.

“She is not a good mom,” the grandma added, according to the lawsuit, adding that Blaylock frequently instructed the boy to “shut up” and that she “don’t do much of anything with him.”

The youngster was transferred to a local hospital and formally diagnosed with autism. Medical workers reported that he was severely malnourished, with substantial linguistic and developmental impairments, dental problems, and “concern for possible sexual abuse.”

His teeth were rotting, and he weighed approximately 46 pounds, according to the court filing. The average weight of an 11-year-old kid is more than 80 pounds.

According to court documents, Blaylock was charged with felony damage to a child causing serious bodily injury. On October 8, she was also charged with possession of methamphetamine in a separate case. Her bond amount was set at $250,000.
