Georgia — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating two deaths after police found two men with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle early Saturday morning.

Around 3:15 a.m., authorities responded to what was initially reported as a car crash on Highway 301 South, just outside Sylvania’s city limits. When officers arrived, they discovered 30-year-old Leon Tolbert Jr. and Brandon Counts inside the car.

Tolbert was pronounced dead on the scene. Counts was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he died from his injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol determined that the vehicle had not crashed, but had simply gone off the side of the road. Investigators discovered a handgun inside the car.

The GBI is carrying out the investigation at the request of the Screven County Sheriff’s Office.
