A tragic drive-by shooting late Friday night in Fremont, California, left two people dead and stunned a community gathering for a wedding reception. Police are now searching for suspects as the investigation remains ongoing.
What Happened
According to the Fremont Police Department, officers responded at around 11:12 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, to reports of shots fired in the parking lot of the Royal Palace Banquet Hall on Stevenson Boulevard.
Police said a suspect vehicle drove up to the victims and opened fire, striking two people. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second later died at a hospital. Authorities initially reported a third victim but later confirmed only two.
Chaos at the Scene
Audio recordings released by police between 911 dispatchers and responding officers revealed the tense moments following the shooting. One officer reported hearing people screaming, while another noted that about 100 people were inside the banquet hall at the time. Thankfully, no one inside was injured.
Local outlets, including CBS News, reported that a wedding reception was underway when the shots rang out. Witnesses described the parking lot as full of guests during the incident.
Victims and Suspects
The identities of the two victims have not yet been released, pending notification of their families. Police said the suspects remain at large and are urging anyone with information to come forward.

In a statement shared on Instagram Stories, the Royal Palace Banquet Hall offered condolences to the victims’ families and clarified that the shooting was unrelated to the venue itself.
The Fremont Police Department also expressed sympathy in a statement:
