Netherlands tourist hacked to death in front of his girlfriend in shocking Bali murder

A brutal killing in Bali has shocked locals and tourists alike, as authorities investigate what appears to be a targeted, gang-style attack in a popular tourist area.

Tourist Killed in Violent Street Attack

A 49-year-old Dutch national, Rene Pouw, was killed in a violent attack in Bali on March 23. The incident took place in Kerobokan, a busy area known for its mix of residences and tourist villas.

According to police, two attackers on a motorbike approached Pouw and assaulted him with knives in front of his girlfriend. The attack happened around 10 p.m. outside his villa.

Attack Witnessed by Girlfriend

The victim’s girlfriend, identified only as PI, told police that Pouw suffered multiple serious wounds to his head, neck, and body. She also said he tried to defend himself but could not escape the attackers.

After the assault, one of the suspects reportedly chased her with a weapon, forcing her to hide nearby until the attackers fled the scene.

Victim Died from Severe Injuries

Pouw was rushed to a hospital but died shortly after due to heavy blood loss. Medical officials reported that most of his injuries were severe and concentrated on the upper body.

His body has been sent for a full forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police Launch Manhunt

Authorities, including local police units, have launched a large-scale search for the suspects. Investigators are working to identify the attackers and understand the motive behind the crime.

Officials say robbery is being considered, although no belongings were reported missing, raising questions about whether the attack was planned.

Possible Links to Criminal Background

Reports suggest that Pouw may have had a criminal history in the Netherlands, including past involvement in drug-related offences. Some sources believe the attack could be linked to a targeted hit, possibly connected to past activities.

However, officials have not confirmed this and are continuing to investigate all possibilities.

Rising Concerns Over Violent Crime

This incident comes amid reports of increasing violent crimes on the island. Authorities and experts have noted a rise in serious offences over the past year, including other high-profile cases.

The trend has raised concerns about safety, especially in areas popular with international visitors.
